Give Your Home The Vintage Look

There are many styles that any of us might wish to choose for our home. But some are likely to hang around a little longer than others, and that is certainly true of the vintage look. This is something that has been in and out of a fashion quite a lot, and at the moment it is something that you might find to be particularly up-to-date, while ironically imbuing the styles of years gone past. Let’s look at some of the things you might do to give your home a vintage look today.

DIY Shelving

For an especially stripped back and simple approach, you might want to look into using an old pallet for a shelf. This can actually be incredibly appealing as a look, and it is a useful way to store jars or crockery, or anything else you might want to store. What’s more, if you have at least a basic DIY skill level, you will find that you can easily put one of these together yourself – thus saving you a lot of money in the process.

Antique Dishes

Sometimes you don’t need to do anything huge, or even touch the decor itself, but it might be enough to merely introduce a few antique items into the home. They can be prohibitively expensive, of course, so it is best to stick to antique versions of quite everyday things. A great example of this is to get hold of some antique dishes and plates, which can go on display in your kitchen and bring some real vintage charm to the room. You can use them too, so at least you know that there is a real practical purpose behind this particular stylistic change.

Again looking at accoutrements rather than decor, there might be something to be said for getting hold of a vintage style drinks trolley. If you are hoping to fit out your dining room or similar space with some vintage goodies, then this is a great one to go for. Plus, you will have somewhere that you can serve drinks from, making this a wonderful little thing to bring out whenever you have a party.

Patterned Tiles

It is often the case that all you need to create any particular effect is the right tiling. This will of course be relevant mostly to the bathroom and kitchen spaces. With the right kind of patterned tiling, you can produce an interesting vintage effect pretty easily, and you might be surprised at what a difference this can actually make. Patterned tiles are simple to find, simple to install, and yet can transform a room in ways that you would not suppose are possible. Make sure you consider these if you are really keen to create a vintage look in your home.

If you consider using all of these, you should find that you are able to make your home look much more vintage indeed. That will produce a lovely home to live in, and one that people are jealous of.

Not only vintage dishes but also vintage kitchen handles in aged brass or brushed copper colors 😉
